Bactroban 2% Nasal Ointment: Things you need to know

What is Bactroban Nasal Ointment used for?

Bactroban nasal ointment is a targeted nasal infection treatment that contains the antibiotic mupirocin. It is used to eliminate bacteria inside the nostrils, particularly a type called Staphylococci, which includes MRSA, helping to clear minor infections.

Bactroban nasal ointment's active ingredient is Mupirocin, which is an antibacterial.  Bactroban nasal ointment is used to treat or prevent infections in the nose due to certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This medicine works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. It will treat the symptoms of Impetigo, skin infections, and MRSA.

Can Bactroban help prevent infection spread?

Bactroban plays a vital role in infection control. By clearing away harmful bacteria that live harmlessly in the nose, it prevents those germs from being shed through breathing, sneezing, or touching, thereby lowering the risk of spreading the infection to vulnerable skin wounds or other people.

How do I apply nasal ointment correctly?

Wash your hands thoroughly first. Place a small amount of ointment, about the size of a match head, onto a clean little finger or a cotton bud, and apply it inside each nostril. Gently squeeze the sides of your nose together afterwards to spread the ointment evenly through the nasal passages.

How long should I use Bactroban Nasal Ointment?

You should always complete the exact course prescribed by your GP or pharmacist, which is typically twice a day for up to five to seven days. Do not stop using the ointment early, even if your symptoms seem to have cleared up, as the bacteria may not be completely eradicated.

Ingredients:

BACTROBAN nasal ointment's main active ingredient is mupirocin. Inactive ingredients are white soft paraffin and Softisan 649 (a mixture of natural vegetable fatty acids).

Always wash your hands before and after applying BACTROBAN nasal ointment.

  • Squeeze a small amount (about the size of a matchstick head) onto the tip of your little finger
