Erectile Dysfunction Is It The Woman's Fault?

Mar 18, 2009 Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction is the failure to maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. It causes upset, frustration and embarrassment. Relationships suffer because sex becomes a source of anxiety rather than pleasure.

Couples become distant and less affectionate towards each other sometimes causing the breakup of the relationship. Causes are psychological, physical and due to an underlying health condition. Treatments involve counselling, lifestyle changes, surgery, implants and medication.

The condition is common and most men have experienced erectile dysfunction at least once in their lives.  More information and suggestions can be seen on the NHS website. Reasons such as stress and depression play a role in causing erectile dysfunction.

Problems at work or a failing relationship are major causes of Ed. Neurological and heart conditions also cause erectile dysfunction.  Treatment only starts when doctors identify the root cause. It is easy to blame each other for the condition but it is nobody’s fault just a reaction to circumstances.

Causes Of Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is also known as impotence.  It is a common condition that affects middle-aged men.  If it happens occasionally there is no need to worry but if it persists you should visit your doctor.

Causes of erectile dysfunction include; narrowing of blood vessels, hormones, side effects of medication, obesity, unhealthy lifestyle, psychological problems and structural problems.

If you have erections in the morning or during masturbation the problem is likely to be due to psychological issues. Stress, anxiety, depression and tiredness contributes to impotence and addressing the cause will help to alleviate the problem. Relationship issues also contribute to erectile dysfunction due to negative emotions.

Diabetes, neurological conditions, high blood pressure and high cholesterol also cause erectile dysfunction.  Lifestyle choices such as; drinking alcohol, smoking being overweight and not having enough exercise causes impotence.

Side effects of certain medication make having an erection difficult. Issues with the endocrine system cause hormone imbalance which can affect your erection. Your doctor will assess your lifestyle and general health to find out the cause of your erectile dysfunction.

Treatments

Treatment depends on the underlying cause of your impotence.  If the cause is due to the side effects of the medication you may be able to alter your dose to see if it reduces erectile dysfunction.

Lifestyle changes such as drinking less, losing weight, giving up smoking and exercising more will improve your overall health and increase your chances of having an erection.

Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Spedra are medications that are used to treat erectile dysfunction.

They all work by widening the blood vessels allowing blood to flow freely to the penis so it becomes erect.  Take one tablet every twenty-four hours and don't exceed the dose. Sexual stimulation is necessary for it to work.  Implants and pumps help men to have erections if they are unable to take medication.

Couples counselling will help with relationship issues that may be contributing to ED.  If the relationship has reached its natural end parting may resolve the ED and both parties can move on to have successful sex lives in new relationships.

The woman alone is not going to be the reason for impotence as there are two people in a relationship. Sometimes people are just not meant to be together and splitting up is the only solution.
