Jul 19, 2022 Foot Care
Summer feet aren’t just about the best pedicure and nail polish. Effective foot care is important all year round but of course, your feet are less likely to be hidden away in boots during the summer. The warmer temperatures we usually get during the summer also have an effect on what care you need to take of your feet. Whether you are craving sandals and holiday-ready feet or just want to make sure your foot care routine is as good as it can be, we have some great tips and products for you.
Do you suffer from rough skin on your feet or unsightly and sore cracked heels? Often prevention is better than cure. Effective regular foot care includes keeping your nails trimmed and hard skin filed down. The Foot File Profoot 360 with its ergonomically shaped design makes this task much easier.
Regularly using a moisturising product designed for feet is advised to keep skin hydrated and nourished. Often recommended by podiatrists and chiropodists for being highly effective, Flexitol Heel Balm is a good example of a popular foot care product. It penetrates the skin, effectively promoting healing from the inside out, not just dealing with surface issues. Please be aware that corn and callow safety knives must be used with caution, particularly for diabetics.
From breaking in new season sandals or trainers to the natural swelling of your feet during heat rubbed and blistered feet and not uncommon. We also tend to spend more time outdoors and prolonged time on our feet during the summer months.
Carnation Spray Plaster can provide a handy quick, clear and breathable barrier film to keep dirt and bacteria out of cuts and grazes on your feet when out and about. This is particularly useful if you’re a flip flop or sandals wearer.
Top tip - Just like you did when breaking new school shoes in when a child, wear new sandals or shoes around the house with socks on for a while. Don’t slip them on straight from the box and head out into the heat. That’s soreness waiting to happen. Softening new shoes up a little will also help reduce soreness.
Another tip is to keep some good quality padded plasters on you when out to protect your feet when needed until you get home. Blister relief is always welcome for tired and sore toes and feet after enjoying summer partying.
Love spending time out at the pool during the summer? So do verrucae. There are a number of effective verruca treatments available. Make sure you stay off the poolside or use a sock until your verruca is dealt with.
You can find out more about verrucae on the NHS website.
Making sure your feet are looking and feeling tip-top before flying out is all part of your holiday preparation. Don’t forget your flight socks though, which are a must for staying healthy while in the air. ProFoot Flight Socks are designed to help reduce the risk of swollen feet and ankles as well as aches and pains. As they feature graduated compression (British Standard BS7672) they help to keep blood flowing efficiently, something that is particularly important when stationary and/or flying due to the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Flight socks are known to reduce the risk of developing DVT.
Available in different colours and sizes, flight socks can be a great way to keep your feet and legs healthy and happy during the summer months and beyond.
Sweaty feet, more common in the warmer months means that your shoes and trainers are filled with bacteria which naturally, can kick up a stink. Using a shoe or sandals spray such as this one from Odor Eaters can neutralise odours and leave you feeling fresher.
During the summer change your socks more regularly, air out your footwear and wipe down and dry your shoes as appropriate.
It is important to look after your feet all year round, especially if you are diabetic or more prone to foot or skin-related issues. Summer months can prove more difficult due to the warmer weather but thankfully we have a wide range of preventative footcare and treatment options available for the common foot issues you might expect.
Keep your favourite heel balms, foot care accessories and more on hand and set a reminder to regularly check and pamper your feet. Dealing with corns and bunions, nails and more to ensure you are comfortable and your feet well so that you can enjoy your summer.
