Foundayo Weight Loss Pill: Everything You Need to Know About the New Oral GLP-1

Sep 24, 2026 Weight Loss

A brand-new daily prescription weight-management medication, Foundayo (orforglipron), is now available in the UK and may be prescribed through our registered Simply Meds Online pharmacy and shipped to your door following an online consultation.

Following official authorisation by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on 10 August 2026, Foundayo (orforglipron) became commercially available in the UK on 24 August 2026. This offers more options for those looking for an alternative way to lose and manage their weight.

Developed by Eli Lilly, the manufacturer behind Mounjaro, Foundayo is an innovative non-peptide, oral GLP-1 receptor agonist. Unlike earlier oral treatments, Foundayo offers the convenience of a daily tablet without strict morning fasting rules or liquid limits.

What Is Foundayo?

Foundayo is a prescription-only daily tablet for eligible adults designed to support weight loss and weight maintenance long-term. Its active substance is orforglipron, which belongs to the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist family.

GLP-1 is a natural hormone released by the gut following a meal. Foundayo works by mirroring or copying your own GLP-1, binding to receptors in the brain to increase feelings of fullness, slowing gastric emptying, and reducing overall hunger and food cravings.

As orforglipron is a small, non-peptide molecule, it is naturally absorbed through the stomach wall like standard tablets. It does not require special absorption enhancers or protective coatings, allowing for a far more flexible daily routine.

Who Can Take Foundayo for Weight Loss?

In accordance with its UK licensing criteria, Foundayo is prescribed alongside a balanced, nutritious and lower-calorie diet and increased exercise/activity for adults who meet specific Body Mass Index (BMI) thresholds:

  • BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater (classified as obesity)
  • BMI of 27 kg/m² to below 30 kg/m² (classified as overweight) with a clinical diagnosis of a weight-related health condition (see below).

Weight-related conditions considered by prescribers include obstructive sleep apnoea, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), abnormal blood fats and cardiovascular disease.

Please note: Meeting BMI criteria does not guarantee a prescription. A qualified UK clinician must evaluate your complete medical history to ensure the treatment is safe for you.

What Doses of Foundayo Are Available?

Foundayo film-coated tablets are produced in six strength options to allow for a steady, controlled escalation pathway:

  • 0.8mg (Pink round tablet - starting dose)
  • 2.5mg (Light yellow round tablet)
  • 5.5mg (Greyish purple round tablet)
  • 9mg (Pink oval tablet)
  • 14.5mg (Light yellow oval tablet)
  • 17.2mg (Greyish purple oval tablet - Maximum daily dose)

The Dose Escalation Pathway

To give your body time to adapt and to minimise digestive side effects, treatment follows a step-by-step monthly schedule, gradually increasing over time:

  1. Initiation (Month 1): Start on 0.8mg once daily for at least 30 days.
  2. Step 2 (Month 2): Increase to 2.5mg once daily for at least 30 days.
  3. Step 3 (Month 3): Increase to 5.5mg once daily for at least 30 days.
  4. Maintenance Phase: Depending on your clinical progress, weight goals, and how well you tolerate the medication, your prescriber may gradually step up through 9mg, 14.5mg, or to the maximum dose of 17.2mg once daily. Each step up requires remaining on the previous strength for a minimum of 30 days.

How Do You Take Foundayo?

Taking Foundayo fits easily into most daily schedules:

  • Frequency: Take one tablet once a day.
  • Timing: You can take Foundayo at any time of day.
  • Food and Drink: Can be taken with food and drink, and there are no fluid limits.
  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.

Unlike oral semaglutide options, there is no need to fast overnight before your dose, wait 30 minutes before drinking tea or coffee, or restrict water intake.

How Much Does Foundayo Cost?

Foundayo is currently available on private prescription in the UK following a clinical assessment. As higher strengths contain greater concentrations of the active ingredient, prices vary according to tablet strength.

At Simply Meds Online, *selling prices per 30-day pack are structured as follows:

Tablet Strength 30-Day Pack Price

2.5mg £107.97

How Long Do You Take Foundayo For?

Foundayo is not intended as a short-term, quick-fix solution. It is licensed as a long-term medical intervention for both weight loss and ongoing weight maintenance.

Obesity is recognised as a chronic health condition. Clinical guidance supports continuing treatment as long as the medication remains effective, well-tolerated, and clinically appropriate for you. Your prescriber will conduct regular clinical reviews to evaluate your weight progress, metabolic health improvements, and overall well-being.

What Are the Side Effects of Foundayo?

Like all GLP-1 receptor agonists, Foundayo can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Side effects are most common during the initial weeks of starting treatment or following a dose increase.

Common Side Effects

The most frequently reported effects involve the gastrointestinal system:

  • Mild to moderate nausea
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Indigestion, heartburn, or acid reflux
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Mild fatigue or dizziness

These symptoms are typically short-term and lessen or stop altogether as your body adapts to orforglipron. Eating smaller meals, eating slowly, avoiding fatty foods, and staying well-hydrated help manage digestive discomfort.

Serious Risks and Warnings

Rare but serious side effects require immediate medical attention:

  • Acute Pancreatitis: Severe, continuous pain in the stomach area that radiates to the back.
  • Severe Allergic Reactions: Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
  • Gallbladder Issues: Severe right-upper abdominal pain, fever, or jaundice.

For detailed safety parameters, refer to the official Foundayo Patient Information Leaflet (PIL).
