Apr 10, 2024 NHS Prescription Charge
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has now announced the NHS Prescription charge will rise to £9.90 per prescription on 1st May 2024 (some items may incur more than one charge).
For prescriptions dispensed in April 2024, the charge will remain at £9.65.
At the end of March 2024, the NHS announced that the prescription charge of £9.65 would roll over into April 2024 whilst consideration was given to price rises.
The changes mean that not only will individual prescription items rise in price, but also prepayment certificates (PPCs) for HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), 3-month PPCs and 12-month PPCs.
3 month PPC will rise from £31.25 to £32.05 a rise of 80p. The 3 month PPC is ideal for patents needed more than four items in a 3 month period.
12 month PPC will rise from £111.60 to £114.50 a rise of £2.90. The 12 month PPC is ideal if you have more than 12 items per year.
The HRT PPC (which is valid for 12 months) will rise from £19.30 to £19.80, an increase of 50p per year. The HRT PPC can only be used when a patient is prescribed one of the listed HRT medicines that can be found on the NHSBSA website.
The charges for Surgical Bra, Abdominal or Spinal Support, Stock Acrylic Wigs, Partial Human Hair Wig and Full Bespoke Hair Wig will also increase at the same rate of 2.9%.
A full breakdown of the new prescription charges can be found on the Gov.uk website.
