Argh! You’ve run out of your medication and are now going away, are already on holiday or perhaps have gone back to uni and left your prescriptions at home. Don’t worry, it happens. What’s important is finding a solution, which here at SimplyMeds Online we are happy to offer.
It is vital that you don’t stop taking prescribed medication without proper advice which is why making sure you have your new prescription in place before you run out is essential. Things happen though, we get that, which is why we offer a dedicated emergency prescription service for certain medications. If you have a regular prescription for asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, gout or a cardiovascular prescription, we can help.
If you've run out of medication before your next repeat or are away from your meds we need you to upload proof via photographic evidence to show that you use the medicine in question. Thankfully there are several things that you can use as evidence, including:
A copy of an NHS or Private prescription
A repeat prescription copy
A hospital letter
A copy of your medical record
A picture of your labelled box
Or any other evidence you think may be relevant.
Please note: Without this evidence, our pharmacy team cannot supply your medication. This is a legal requirement.
To get started, visit our Emergency Prescription Medication page which shows you how to get an emergency prescription, start your consultation and upload your evidence. When answering the questions, make sure that you understand that our pharmacist may need to access your summary care records. This is to make checks where clinically necessary to ensure your safety.
When using this service you also agree to contact your GP/Doctor if you have any side effects or if you begin to feel worse.
Our pharmacy team are currently able to issue emergency medicine prescriptions for those diagnosed with and prescribed medication for high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, gout or those taking a cardiovascular drug. These conditions take careful management and missing doses of medication can be dangerous.
The SimplyMeds Online team aim to have your medication with you within 24 hours to minimise disruption to your treatment plan.
Good news! Yes, SimplyMeds Online are also able to send you emergency contraception. The rules around emergency contraception, also known as the morning-after pill, are slightly different to the emergency medicines above which is why you don’t need to upload proof in the same way. Instead, a consultation has to be completed for the prescriber to issue the emergency contraception.
Take a look at our sexual health section for other contraceptive methods or speak to your GP/sexual health team for ongoing contraception support.
Did you know that you can nominate SimplyMeds Online as your NHS prescription provider? This means that when you order your prescriptions as you usually do, i.e. through the NHS app, you can have them delivered directly to you via our pharmacy.
This is incredibly useful in terms of not having to find the time to get to the local chemist. It also means that with regular deliveries sent directly to you, you’ll be less likely to forget your prescription and need an emergency one to be sent through. You can find out more about setting yourself up for regular NHS prescription ordering with us here (it’s very simple).
There’s a certain panic that comes with realising you’ve run out of or are away from your regular medicines. This is especially true for high cholesterol, diabetes and other conditions requiring close monitoring and regular medication. Thankfully our pharmacists can help in some situations. For other prescriptions and medications we don’t currently supply on an emergency medication prescription, the NHS out of hours page might help point you in the right direction.
