Why Should I Stop Smoking At Christmas?

Dec 06, 2017 Stop Smoking

Choosing a time to stop smoking is difficult because life gets in the way.  We are reaching the end of the year which is always a good time to reflect on the past and anticipate the future.  People try to give up after New Year but and fail miserably along with not going to the gym and not going on a diet. Christmas is a time where we spend time with our families and meet friends.  It may also be a good time to stop smoking simply because it is an inconvenient habit to have. Every time you need to smoke you will have to go outside.  There is no option to escape to the local pub anymore to light up due to the smoking ban. Smoking outside in the cold and wet can have a negative effect on your health and you will smell of cigarettes.  There are many good reasons for taking the opportunity to at least reduce your smoking habit over the Christmas period which might make quitting easier than you think.

Cold And Flu

The common cold usually makes smoking unbearable due to the fact that you are already coughing and wheezing without the help of a cigarette.  If you don’t stop smoking you are at risk of making your cold much much worse.  Relatives with asthma are also at risk of becoming very ill if they inhale your second-hand smoke.

Babies And Children

Obviously, you are not going to smoke in front of the children in the house because that would be completely unacceptable.  Did you know that the toxic chemicals on your clothes and in your hair are bad for children and young babies?  Even if you think you have removed all evidence of your sneaky cigarette you are still endangering the youngest members of your family.  If that isn’t a good reason to stop smoking what isn’t?

Save Money

Smoking is an expensive business each pack costs about £10 and your insurance premiums go up.  Even if you only smoke one packet of cigarettes a week you will save over £40 over the course of the holiday season.  The more you usually smoke the more you will save.  You can buy more wine and beer, more presents or treat yourself in the sales with even the smallest saving.

Kissing Under The Mistletoe

Obviously, you don’t need to stand under a sprig of mistletoe to kiss but Christmas kisses are pretty popular at this time of the year.  Smoking makes you have breath bad, yellow teeth and breathless (not in a sexy way though).  If you want your prospective partner to think you are a good catch stop smoking and start living healthily.  Besides nipping out for a cigarette is not a good way to keep someone interested in you.

Stop Smoking Methods

If the only cold turkey you can manage is in your sandwich on Boxing day you may require help from stop smoking treatments.  You can use; patches, gum and sprays which help to quell your cravings.   Champix is a stop smoking treatment that mimics the effects of nicotine on the brain and body.  It helps you to stop smoking by reducing your need for real nicotine and eventually wean yourself if it. There are many ways to stop smoking using apps and group therapy you are most certainly not alone in your desire to be smoke-free.
